Care Advice

CARE ADVICE

Proper care ensures your handwoven rug remains beautiful for generations. Follow these guidelines to preserve its natural beauty.

Regular maintenance

Vacuuming

Vacuum weekly using a suction-only setting (no rotating brush). Always vacuum in the direction of the pile. Avoid vacuuming the fringe.

Rotation

Rotate your rug 180 degrees every 3-6 months to ensure even wear and sun exposure.

Shaking

For smaller rugs, take them outside and shake gently to remove dust and debris.

Addressing spills

Act quickly. Blot (never rub) spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible.

For stubborn stains, mix a small amount of mild detergent with cool water. Gently dab the stain, working from the outside in. Rinse with clean water and blot dry.

Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or strong cleaning agents, as these may damage natural fibres.

Deep cleaning

We recommend professional cleaning every 12-18 months, or more frequently in high-traffic areas.

Always use a specialist who understands handwoven natural fibre rugs. Avoid steam cleaning, which can damage wool and jute.

Special considerations

Shedding is natural for new wool rugs and will diminish over time. Continue regular vacuuming to remove loose fibres.

Wool is naturally stain-resistant and resilient. Light marks often disappear with gentle brushing once the area is dry.

Natural fibre care

Jute and flatweave rugs should be kept dry. Avoid placing them in high-moisture areas like bathrooms or kitchens.

For jute rugs, spot clean only. Excessive water can cause shrinkage or damage to natural fibres.

Long-term preservation

If storing your rug, clean it thoroughly first. Roll (never fold) with the pile facing inward, and wrap in breathable cotton or muslin.

Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture.
