The Craft
Every Kapetto rug is the product of a centuries-old dialogue between artisan and material. We honor traditional techniques while embracing a modern design sensibility, creating pieces that feel both timeless and contemporary.
From the highland pastures where our fibers are sourced to the hands that weave each piece, every step reflects a deep reverence for craft.

Our Techniques
Three methods, each refined over centuries. Every technique carries its own character, its own beauty.

Hand-Knotted
The pinnacle of rug craftsmanship. Each knot is individually tied by hand using the Persian knot, a process that can take months for a single rug. A skilled weaver ties 8,000 to 12,000 knots per day.
Up to 64 knots per square inch

Hand-Tufted
A tufting tool punches yarn through a canvas backing, creating a plush, durable surface. This method allows for remarkable design flexibility while maintaining the artisan touch.
Dense pile, lasting comfort

Hand-Loomed
An ancient weaving art passed down through centuries. The artisan works the loom with practiced rhythm, creating flat-weave rugs with distinctive textures and patterns.
Flat-weave, reversible design
Time & Skill
A small 3×5 foot rug requires approximately 200 to 300 hours of work. Larger pieces or those with intricate patterns can take 800 hours or more.
“The irregular beauty of handwork, the slight variations in tension and pile height, give each rug character and authenticity. These are not imperfections but signatures of human craft.”
The Journey of Cashmere
Every Kapetto rug begins with an extraordinary fiber. Cashmere, the world's most precious natural material, is gathered from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats that roam the high-altitude plateaus where temperatures plunge below freezing. This harsh environment produces the finest, softest fibers known to humankind.
We honor this remarkable material by transforming it into rugs that bring warmth, beauty, and timeless elegance to your living spaces.

Where It All Begins
High in the mountain pastures, cashmere goats have adapted to extreme conditions over thousands of years. During the bitter winters, they develop a fine, downy undercoat that provides exceptional insulation against the cold. Come spring, this precious fiber is gently combed by hand, a tradition passed down through generations.
Each goat produces only 150 to 200 grams of usable cashmere per year, making every strand a precious gift from nature.
Artisan Craftsmanship
Once selected, the raw cashmere undergoes a careful transformation. Skilled artisans clean, card, and spin the fibers using techniques refined over centuries. The spinning process preserves the natural properties of cashmere while creating yarns of remarkable strength and consistency.
Every step is performed with patience and precision, honoring the material and the traditions that have shaped it.

“In a world of the mass-produced, we choose to honor the slow, the careful, the extraordinary.”

Design as Feeling
Art Director Charlotte Engström selects every fiber, approves every color, and shapes every proportion in the Kapetto collection. Her approach is rooted in Scandinavian restraint and informed by the rich material traditions of the East.
“A rug is the first thing your feet touch in the morning. That moment should feel intentional.”
