Rug Care Guide

A Kapetto rug is crafted to last generations. With the right care, its beauty only deepens with time. Here is how to preserve the character of each material.

Cashmere

Loom Knotted

Cashmere is among the most luxurious natural fibers. Its extraordinary softness requires a gentle approach to cleaning and maintenance.

  • Vacuum gently using a low-suction setting without a beater bar. Vacuum in the direction of the pile, not against it.

  • Rotate every 6 months to ensure even wear and prevent localized fading from sunlight.

  • Professional cleaning recommended. Avoid home steam cleaners, which can damage the delicate fibers and alter the pile.

  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Never rub. For stubborn stains, consult a professional.

  • Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods. Use curtains or UV-filtering window film to protect color integrity.

Wool

Hand-Knotted & Hand-Loomed

New Zealand wool is naturally resilient, stain-resistant, and remarkably durable. With basic care, a wool rug will retain its beauty for decades.

  • Vacuum regularly on a medium setting. New wool rugs may shed initially \u2014 this is normal and diminishes within the first few months.

  • Rotate quarterly to distribute foot traffic evenly and maintain consistent color across the surface.

  • Professional cleaning annually. Between professional cleans, spot clean with a mild, pH-neutral detergent and cool water.

  • Naturally stain-resistant. Wool's lanolin coating repels liquids. Blot spills promptly and most will lift without residue.

  • Flat-weave wool (Yuka) can be shaken outdoors periodically to release dust and refresh the fibers.

Jute

Hand-Woven

Jute is a naturally robust fiber that brings organic texture to any room. It thrives in dry environments and develops a beautiful patina with age.

  • Vacuum regularly on a low setting to remove dust and debris. Jute fibers can be delicate, so avoid aggressive suction.

  • Avoid excessive moisture. Jute absorbs water readily and can stain or develop mildew. Keep in dry, well- ventilated areas.

  • Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth. For wet spills, apply baking soda to absorb moisture, then vacuum once dry.

  • Use a rug pad to cushion the fibers, prevent slipping, and protect your floors from the natural texture.

  • Will soften with age. New jute feels firm and rustic. Over time, foot traffic naturally softens the fibers, enhancing comfort.

General Care Principles

Use a Rug Pad

Always place a quality rug pad underneath. It prevents slipping, reduces wear, and allows air circulation that preserves fibers.

Rotate Regularly

Rotate your rug 180 degrees every three to six months. This ensures even wear and prevents fading from consistent sunlight exposure.

Act Quickly on Spills

Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Press gently — never rub. Work from the outside in to prevent spreading.

Professional Cleaning

Have your rug professionally cleaned once a year. Choose a cleaner experienced with natural fibers and hand-crafted rugs.
