Highland pastures where cashmere goats roam

The Art of Wool

From highland pastures to your home

The Journey of Cashmere

Every Kapetto rug begins with an extraordinary fibre. Cashmere, the world's most precious natural material, is gathered from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats that roam the high-altitude plateaus where temperatures plunge below freezing. This harsh environment produces the finest, softest fibres known to humankind.

We honour this remarkable material by transforming it into rugs that bring warmth, beauty, and timeless elegance to your living spaces.

Where It All Begins

High in the mountain pastures, cashmere goats have adapted to extreme conditions over thousands of years. During the bitter winters, they develop a fine, downy undercoat that provides exceptional insulation against the cold. Come spring, this precious fibre is gently combed by hand, a tradition passed down through generations.

Each goat produces only 150 to 200 grams of usable cashmere per year, making every strand a precious gift from nature.

The Art of Selection

Not all cashmere is created equal. The finest fibres measure just 14 to 16 microns in diameter, finer than the most delicate silk. Our master artisans carefully select only the longest, finest fibres, ensuring each rug possesses the signature softness and durability that defines Kapetto.

This meticulous selection process means that only a fraction of each year's harvest meets our exacting standards.

“There is something profound in working with cashmere, a material that has warmed humanity across millennia, connecting us to the earth and the hands that tend these remarkable creatures.”

Artisan Craftsmanship

Once selected, the raw cashmere undergoes a careful transformation. Skilled artisans clean, card, and spin the fibres using techniques refined over centuries. The spinning process preserves the natural properties of cashmere while creating yarns of remarkable strength and consistency.

Every step is performed with patience and precision, honouring the material and the traditions that have shaped it.

Woven With Care

Our rugs are created on traditional looms by artisans who have dedicated their lives to this craft. The weaving process is slow and deliberate, a single rug may take weeks to complete. This unhurried approach ensures that every knot is perfect, every pattern precise, and every rug a genuine work of art.

The result is a rug of exceptional quality that will grace your home for generations.

A Legacy of Warmth

A Kapetto cashmere rug is more than a floor covering. It is an investment in comfort and beauty that improves with age. The natural properties of cashmere provide exceptional warmth in winter and remain cool in summer. Its inherent resilience means your rug will retain its softness and beauty through years of daily life.

Each rug carries within it the story of its origins: the mountain air, the patient goatherds, the skilled hands that brought it to life.

“In a world of the mass-produced, we choose to honour the slow, the careful, the extraordinary.”
